Once again, the tale continues. After exploring London, Barcelona, and Brussels and most recently Los Angeles, we’ll be heading back to Europe and this time, Amsterdam. The city known for its canals, beautiful houses, ‘coffee’ shops and Red Light District, but there’s plenty more to discover.
During the summer months, we often like to spend our days in warm places, with beaches, and everything that gives us a summer feeling. But this sometimes does get a bit too hot, and every now and then we need alternative plans to cool down. And what better place to do that, than in the lovely city of Amsterdam?
If you’re visiting Amsterdam, or any other city, we obviously don’t want you to miss out on anything, which is why we bring Once Upon a Summertime to you… blogs from cities around the world where you can enjoy the recommendations that The Next Cartel has made for its readers.
The best plans for the summer, from open-air cinemas, concerts, art exhibitions, creative activities… all that, and are available every week right here at TNC.
In addition, we will let you know what TNC readers do, where they go, restaurants, pubs, and where they relax. So you can get inspired and find out about the coolest, non touristy things to do in the capital of The Netherlands!
Welcome to One Upon A Summer Time in Amsterdam!
SOFITEL LEGEND THE GRAND AMSTERDAM
Source: Misset Horeca
For its second edition, the luxury hotel transforms its historical patio into an actual sand beach of about 380 square meters. The venue has an outdoor bar, huge Big Green Egg-barbecues and different seating areas and cabanas.
This edition is all about relaxation, a tropical, Caribbean atmosphere with a exotic decor existing out of vibrant colours.
On the beach you can enjoy some amazing wines, fresh cocktails and dishes within the same Caribbean theme.
Throughout the summer they have multiple types of events from barbecues to cinema nights and even rum tastings!
If you’re in Amsterdam and still kind of miss the beach, definitely check out this place.

PINK BEACH AMSTERDAM

Similar to Sofitel’s beach club, Pink Beach Amsterdam also opened a new venue in Amsterdam in the east side, about a 10 minute walk from the central station.
A very different vibe, as it feels more like a dream with the pink sand, palmtrees, and cacti. But the 300 square meter sunny terrace is the ultimate dreamscape if Sofitel’s is not that much your thing.
It is inspired by the dark periods we’ve all been through the last year and a half, and wanted to completely shift it into a place with beaches like in Indonesia and the Caribbean.
You can’t go wrong with either beach bar!
