The world of NFT’s is booming, that is no secret. Here at TNC, we have written tons of articles about it, as have other platforms. NFTs are everywhere! Still, if you haven’t wrapped your head around them yet, and don’t really understand what the hell an NFT is, you can read more about it here. Or here.
Summarized, NFT’s are short for “non-fungible tokens” which basically just means they’re digital certificates of authenticity, which allow things online to be sold or traded. This allows for the existence of intangible collections of digital art, tweets, or anything you could possibly think of really.
You might be tempted to say “yeah but I can screenshot it”, and you would be wrong. Despite being able to do that, since NFT’s are a part of the blockchain, the history of the item can be traced, and show its history, who created it, who sold it… etc. This creates a sense of exclusivity, something people are dying for nowadays.
With NFT’s being the way to go for people to make money easily, it seems that celebrities have caught on, and are seeing it as a business opportunity, and taking advantage of it. The rap scene in particular, has taken kindly to the NFT world. Stars like Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, Soulja Boy, Snoop Dogg, and more, have announced their first NFT collections, which include augmented reality memorabilia, and other virtual collectibles.
The first one that tickled our fancy is Snoop Dogg’s first NFT collection. This collection was auctioned off via Crypto.comon March 30th with the title “A Journey with the Dogg”. The collection brought back memories of the early years in his iconic career.

“Young Snoop,” “Snoop Dogge Coins,” and “Death Row” were part of the 8 piece collection. In his own words:
“I’ve seen the game change over the years from analog to digital and I’m always happier when the technology lets the fans get to connect with the artists.”
One of his pieces sold for $100,000.
Second up is one that reaaaaaally caught our attention.

Lastly, Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, Quavo, and Jack Harlow released a digital collection in partnership with Bleacher Report. It was releasing as “part of their unofficial tip-off to NBA All-Star Sunday.” The collection included four custom-designed basketballs that incorporate music, culture, and sports. In total, the NFTs sold for more than $591,000.

It seems that soon enough, anyone known for anything will be selling NFTs, question is, will this NFT wave last? Or should rappers stick to making rap?
